With spring just around the corner, I would like to share some important information with your about state testing planned this year.
We are just beginning the state test for English Language Arts and Mathematics. These tests are called Smarter Balanced Assessments (SBAs) and will be taken online by all students grades 3 through 8 this spring. Our 5th through 8th grade students will continue to take the Science MSP this year.
Smarter Balanced Assessments are:
· Scheduled to begin March 23rd for grades 3 through 5
· Scheduled to begin April 20th for 6 through 8 grades
· Given online in four sections over a week period in each grade level. We will begin with grade 3 and move on to 4 and finish with grade 5.
Please make every attempt to have your child here on testing days with plenty of sleep the night before and a healthy breakfast. (Breakfast is served here from 8:05 to 8:25)
Our district’s continued implementation of Common Core State Standards (CCSS) will better prepare our students for career and college opportunities beyond high school. Our teachers are committed to this critical shift and have been teaching to the new English Language Arts and Math standards using updated district curriculum since the start of the school year. Ongoing professional development for our teachers is helping to ensure a smooth and successful transition.
