What is Missoula Children’s Theater (MCT) ? It is the nation’s largest touring children’s theater, which visits communities around the world for school aged children. Residency Week involves a “little red truck”, driven by two Tour Directors and loaded with a set, lights, costumes, props and make-up; everything it takes to put on a play….except the cast. This is where the children of our community come in. The MCT team will hold open auditions and will cast 50-60 local Almira Elementary & ACH Middle School students to perform in the production. Auditions will be during the school day. Practices will be during the school day as well as after school from 3:15-5:15.
Our 2024 production is “Peter and Wendy”. The show is rehearsed throughout the week, May 6-10, daily. Not all parts will practice each night or the whole session that day. Specific information will be handed out after auditions Monday. Two public performances will be presented on Friday.
All MCT shows are original adaptations of classic children’s fairy tales or stories. Creativity, social skills, goal achievement, communication skills and self-esteem are all characteristics obtained through participation in the program.
Students will audition for parts in the play Monday, May 6th. The audition process will be closed which means only MCT tour directors and MCT committee members will be present during the auditions. Parts will be assigned by the tour directors and practices will be scheduled throughout the week in the Almira School. Parents will be responsible for transportation to and from practices and performances. Participants who stay for the later rehearsals will have to be picked up by a parent or ride the activity bus to Hartline and Coulee City.
Permission slips will go home April 8th and will be due to the school office by April 19th.
The actual schedule with times will be handed out after roles are assigned on Monday, May 6th. It has been our experience that the younger the child, practices have been later in the week and earlier in the scheduled practice time. Schedules are made by the MCT Tour Directors.
Students MUST be available for each practice and 2 performances.
Performances will be Friday, May 10th at 1pm and 6pm in the Almira Multipurpose Room. Admission fee: free will donation. We suggest $5 per person.
